Dear Grant Ranch Residents,
Normally I try to write on topics that are relevant to the entire community but a recent change by the City of Denver’s trash collection policy compels me to talk about this issue. The city of Denver, in an effort to save money, will only be collecting overflow trash (the trash that won’t fit in the black barrel) every third week and then they will only take up to 10 bags of overflow. For some of you this is going to cause some distress due to the fact that families often generate more trash each week than the barrel will hold which means that you have to store the extra bags for two weeks in garage that may already be full. Please do not store trash outside where it would be visible. We have checked with the Denver and they said that they would not issue a second barrel to a residence so one possible solution, for those of you who don’t have a recycle bin, is to take advantage of this option to reduce the amount of overflow trash that you might have. I would also ask that those households in our community that only have one or two occupants such as is my case that you offer the extra space in your barrel to your neighbors that might have overflow. My wife and I seldom fill our barrel so I let my neighbors who have kids at home know that they are welcome to use my barrel if need be. We will also be posting the schedule of overflow trash pickup on the Grantranch.org web-site and in closing I would ask that we all do what we can to work with these new trash pickup schedules, and help out our neighbors when possible.
Sincerely,
Chad Otto
